1980 Hurst "Shawnee" SS2
Picture: 1980 Hurst

One of the 1980 Shawnee Hurst SSII Legendary Vehicles Dies. For Many years it was believed that there were at least 3 1980 SSIIs built. These were experimental SSIIs made in cooperation with IH and the Hurst Corporation. This SSII Had a Hurst Shifter, Special Trim, Special Shawnee SS (With a Tomahawk) decals, Molded Plastic cover over the bed and roll bar. This was a very unique concept vehicle. It was believed that one these ended up at the proving grounds in Arizona and somehow was sold to the public. For years I would hear about from folks who ran across it in the Phoenix area. The last report said that IT had been broken into and was in rough shape. It was also believed that gentleman from the Hurst Corp. Had one of every "Hurst" Converted/Packaged Vehicle (like the "Hurst Olds") that was built which included the Shawnee Scout. After a Scout Enthusiast who wanted to build a replica Traced this Person down the report was not good. He said that he did not have one these and thought that all were destroyed by IH after the demise of the Scout Line. However, About 2-3 years ago while he was in Arizona; He happened to pass what looked like one of these Scouts. He Chased it Down and managed to get the Licensee plate number. He also said that it was in Rough shape. He tract down the Plate number and it turned out to be a dealer plate. That dealer had just come from the auto auction where he could not get a single bid on this Scout and so he Took it to a Junk Yard and it was Dismantled and the parts were shipped to Mexico! The gentleman from Hurst also said he had lots of Pictures and printed matter on this Scout project in which he thought there would be no body interested in this material and so he through it away. What a tragedy!! So One of these legendary Vehicles Dies, & apparently one has surfaced for sale, & still one of the 3 is still unaccounted for.
